Pony With a Fez: Geeks according to TV
Compare and contrast:
The Big Bang Theory uses its so-called “geek” characters as the butt of jokes, has only a superficial understanding of their personalities, and has a really, really limited range of pop culture reference points for the things they do and like….
AGREEMENT. Troy and Abed are AWESOME. they get on the group’s nerves sometimes, but they are having fun. Also, they have a great friendship. my geeky persuits have lead to some really graet friends. we have a lot of fun together, and we support each other through serious life stuff. I can’t watch Big Bang Theory because of second-hand embarrasment issues. I cant watch them wandering around so isolated and…,devisive. geekishness and fannishness should bring people together. and not draw them apart. And on Community, Troy and Abed aren’t those freakish fanboys/ They are STILL part of a group. They do their own thing, and they have the rest of their friends as well. Friends that came to their housewarming party (dead Pierce and evil Troy and Abed aside) and one who moved in with them. because she is different than them, but she understands them, and they’re still her friends. OMG I HAVE A LOT OF COMMUNITY FEELS YOU GUYS AND FEELS ABOUT HOW GEEKS ARE PORTRAYED AS ‘OTHER’ IN THE MEDIA. Troy and Abed have their thing, Sherly has her family/god thing. Jeff is learning how to use his sweet talking powerds for good instead of evil… they’re all whole, well-rounded people. And they accept each other, for the most part. troy is a little… sheltered. Abed possibly has some neuro-differences (ok more than possibly) which he has in common with the Big Bang guys. But he’s just… more tolerable than them. He’s not an “other.” he’s just a unique componant in the group. UGGF HATE ALL THE THINGS.
