Not to mention the recipients who are in school full time, or the ones who are unable to work (illness, injury, etc.), and yet all kinds of people still need to eat. I don’t know why we begrudge fellow humans basic things like food & medical care but no one should have to earn the right to survive.

That’s the thing, we’ve created this wholly inter-dependent economy. It’s not like you’re just too lazy to go till your land or something—having education and opportunity and being in the right place at the right time (geographically, and otherwise) play HUGE roles in getting decent employment. And no, not paying people enough to survive doesn’t help. more and more jobs fall into that category, which just makes the situation worse and worse. The more employers can do it, the more they will. The more opportunities close to people, the more they’ll resign themselves to having to work a job with a piss poor hourly wage. because of that inter-dependent economy. It relies on cheap labor, and cheap labor relies on keeping people down and “in their place.”
